LUPITA NYONG'O SCOOPS OSCAR AWARD: Beats big Hollywood Stars

I've had my eye on this talented sister from another country(Kenya) since her role in the Tv Series SHUGA.

Shuga is a Kenyan television series that was first aired in November 2009 on MTV Base as part of an initiative dubbed "MTV Staying Alive Ignite,  part of a ground-breaking multimedia campaign to spread the message about responsible sexual behaviour and tolerance. It later became a hit and was aired in 40 different African countries before it was aired internationally in over 70 television stations.
I was mainly glued to the Tv because of her performance and it turns out she was even better given the right script, Producers and Directors!

She is the one and only African beauty LUPITA NYONG'O! Everyone, from Hollywood to the world over is taken with her and wants a piece of her! She is most probably one of the most talked about and photographed Hollywood newcomers! Again, no surprise here; have you seen her in action? And that by the way goes for her acting and graceful red carpet super model-like entrance, all done so effortlessly and naturally like she has graced the carpet forever; that is the true definition of A STAR!

I am not worried about Lupita's career in the future; because when given more roles and time to show what
she is made of, she is sure going to keep blowing our minds. As a matter of fact she already has a couple of movies lined up!

Who is Lupita

She is a Kenyan, born to Dorothy and Peter Anyang' Nyong'o. She was raised in Kenya, educated in the USA at Yale University School of Drama & Acting. Lupita at one point came to Kampala and joined the Maisha Film Lab, a film school set up and run by Hollywood director Mira Nair. She had her initial training in acting right here in Uganda under Mira at Maisha Lab and later in Nairobi.
Hollywood director and producer Mira Nair had this to say about her, “To do anything in film, you need to be trained, but you also need the fire in your belly, a passion that cannot be ignored,” she explained. “Lupita had focus, drive, passion and above everything else, talent”!
And the rest, like they say is history!

Oscar Night
Even having won may other prestigious awards this season, last night was still nerve wracking not only for Lupita and her family but many the world over, me inclusive. We were all rooting for her to nail this one and nail it she did! She scooped the 2014's Academy Award (OSCAR) for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Patsey in 12 YEARS  A SLAVE.

And just in a blink of an eye her life and acting career are forever changed; though this blink took hard work, alot of family support and talent!

From red carpet events to parties, to Magazine Covers, everyone wants to be seen with LUPITA and photographed with her; she is Hollywood's new sensation.
In the past, someone new in Hollywood would strive to attend all the A-List parties and would sell their soul to be photographed or dine with the likes of Brad Pitt, Angelina, OPRAH, Idris Elba, but not Lupita.
The tide is moving in the opposite direction with most of Hollywood wondering who this African beauty is and dieing to be at least photographed with her!

More to that, Designers are climbing over themselves to dress her, with literally almost every one in the
fashion world including publications wanting to "own her" . She has been spotted in the company of high end fashion magazine's Editor's in Chief at fashion shows behaving like they were classmates in high school hheehehhe. That is Lupita Nyong'o for you. There is a LUPITA NYONG'O craze in the US of A at the moment that 'am calling Lupitaness.

Well that is how success smells like, like we say in Uganda, Lupita has arrived! Watch this space.

UgandaAntiGayBill Aid Freeze Continues: World Bank Postpones $90m Uganda loan

Well, we can't say we didn't see this AID war coming; we signed our own aid freeze the moment the anti gay bill hit parliament and what were threats are now reality with the World Bank being the latest to join in. According to BBC,the loan was supposed to be approved on Thursday to supplement a 2010 loan that focused on maternal health, newborn care and family planning. The World Bank's action is the largest financial penalty incurred on the Ugandan authorities since the law went into force on Monday.

International bodies and the Western world in general are disappointed in Ugandans and the government and President for recently signed anti gay bill into a law. We have been called all manner of names and still the people stand their ground on the bill that has seen UGANDA officially the most talked about country in the world at the moment.

The President remains adamant the Western world has more to lose by withdrawing and freezing aid than the Ugandan people, adding that Ugandans are better off without "their aid".

Ugandan's took to social media to discuss the bill and its possible impact; in typical Ugandan fashion many have already come up with light ways to tell off donors and their aid.

Many say it's okay for them to freeze it because it has always filled the pockets of those at the top and rarely does it reach the intended persons/projects!

I on the other hand see hard times ahead as many people are set to lose their jobs and important projects and NGO's grinding to a halt due to no funding!

The President has also stood his ground and insists Uganda will not at all be affected negatively by the withdrawals, " although the US is giving us 1 Trillion shs for AIDS, most of it is being used by these NGOs running around,” he said adding, “our existence is more important. Hmmmmm, clearly many Ugandans will soon be jobless and bitter.

Uganda, Kampala Mini Skirt Madness: Social Media Uprising, END Mini-Skirt Harassment on Facebook Gains Ground

The unreasonable Anti Pornography Bill  and vague bill is here and it is here to stay! However, what the the "owners" in parliament didn't see coming is the violent aftermath. Or maybe they did and didn't care, for political reasons! Otherwise, tell me, how does one even come up with such a bill when we are in need of a gazillion many more bills in this banana republic??

One more thing they overlooked is the united voice and the force of the youth and power of social media!
Gone are the days when the average Ugandan was stepped all over in silence. We now have strong and fast platforms to round up support and use them we shall!.

On Facebook, a group of unknown courageous and unbeatable ladies (I assume) came up with an idea to create a page denouncing the horrible acts that have been going since the misinterpreted anti pornography bill was passed. They are advocating for respect of human rights and want the government and police to DO SOMETHING about the madness(as I call it) that is happening all over. If you don't know about it, click this link to read an article on this blog for more details. Go To http://www.the-ugandan.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-dark-ati-pornography-bill-so-let-me_24.html

This is by far the fastest growing facebook page that doesn't have anything to do with celebrity or selling a product; with over 4000 Likes/Members in two days, the "owners" of this bill should be afraid. The ladies are not joking and will stop at nothing to be heard!! Titled "END Mini-Skirt Harassment" the page's agenda is clear. We want protection from hooligans on the streets and have the right to ask for that, and much more!

Check it out on https://www.facebook.com/ENDminiskirtharassment and add your voice to the many. Together we can do this! WE GO, WE GO!!

Did You Know? Download "Telegram", the New Messenger Competiting with Whatsapp

Telegram Messenger, launched last year in September is a fairly new App that is giving WhatsApp a run for it's money! Though not yet a hit in Uganda, possibly because it's not widely known (remember how long it took for us to notice whatsapp, Twitter, and facebook? ), it's a total hit in may parts of Europeand America.

The battle for  instant messaging  has already become a game of thrones. Some have an advantage over others, but Whatsapp has been ruling for sometime now until it was acquired by Facebook, a move which saw it lose over 5million users in a day!

Telegram Messenger rushed in that overcrowded battleground with some interesting features, aiming to be positioned as a real alternative to what's already on the market;sincerely one can comfortably say it's close likeness to Whatsapp is one of the reasons for it's shooting fame.

Like Whatsapp, Telegram is free with no ads, has an option to attach and send photos/videos and has a keen interface that bares alot of resemblance to whatsapp.

However, it gets more interesting. Telegram gives you the ability to send messages and photos with a self-destruct timer, within the 'secret chat'. Within a secret chat, documents, videos, locations and searched images can all be sharedmeaning nobody but the sender and recipient can read/forward the messages - not even the Telegram staff. Secret chat messages can't be forwarded to others outside of the conversation, and no trace is left on their servers.
So confident is Telegram in the security of their messages, they're offering $200,000 worth of Bitcoin to the first hacker to break into its encrypted protcol until March 1. It's also cloud-based, meaning messages can be sent and accessed from multiple devices, including desktops.

You can download the app from the Google Play store  or many other sources.

Who knows, maybe this is a good plan B in light of the rumors online about threats to shut down whatsapp and facebook because of the recently signed anti gay bill. see http://www.the-ugandan.blogspot.com/2014/02/uganda-antigaybill-rumours-emerge.html

In other news, in a bid to remain relevant and ahead of the game, Whatsapp announced that they are soon launching Free Voice Calls for their users.  Watch this space.

Uganda AntiGayBill: Rumours Emerge Online that Facebook & WhatsApp Intend to Suspend Operations in Uganda

The aftermath of the Anti Gay Bill is slowly taking shape and we shouldn't be surprised neither should we assume the worst is over. Rumors online have it that Mark Zuckerburg and associates are the latest to join the "Threat club" or should we call it the "Withdrawal Club! According to a statement online signed allegedly by a one Sheryl Kara Sandberg
Chief Operations Officer Facebook,
it's clear that they too will soon cut ties with Uganda.

The statement reads, "When we launched Facebook, we thought it as a platform to advance people’s rights and liberties of self expression in all form. We were equally shocked to learn that Uganda as a country had gone ahead to sign the Anti Homosexuality bill into a law.
Facebook is currently reviewing its engagement to Uganda, as we seek to come up with a voice to express our dissatisfaction. And of course, suspending our operations in Uganda is one of the options we are considering. In the event that we suspend operations in Uganda, our platforms of Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp will be off for a time we shall deem necessary.
We strongly condemn the act of the Ugandan Government to overstep the rights of a minority. All humans are created equal and deserve a right to freedom and happiness.

Although the statement hasn't been confirmed yet, this latest threat if true, will see many Ugandan youth and business establishments, even government bodies losing touch with the outside world as facebook and whatsapp are quite popular here. Having acquired Whatsapp recently, Mark Zuckerburg has us by the throat on this one. Watch this space!

This comes just after Netherlands and Canada said they too will withdraw aid for the same reasons. Well if all goes south, then at least there is a new app #TELEGRAM which just launched and is an exact replica of #Whatsapp!
“Now that this law has been enacted, we are beginning an internal review of our relationship with the Government of Uganda to ensure that all dimensions of our engagement, including assistance programs, uphold our anti-discrimination policies and principles and reflect our values,” he said.

On the other hand, most Ugandans took to social media to thank God and the President for his "courageous" move against Western Bullies . The President did not at any point seem fazed by the threats and went ahead to tell them all off stating that they would be the ones to lose and not Uganda. “Although the US is giving us 1 Trillion shs for AIDS, most of it is being used by these NGOs running around,” Museveni said adding, “our existence is more important.

Uganda Anti Gay Bill: It's Now illegal not to Report Gays!

President Museveni signs #AntiGayBill
YES! You heard right, it's now illegal and punishable by law if you know that someone is gay but don't out/report them to the authorities! Madness! And how does the police intend to prove that one 'is in the know' of someone's sexual orientation? Are we being turned into spies without our knowledge? Well good luck with that! I am staying as far away from this bill as I possibly can. I only see the days ahead getting darker and darker with violence and all manner of vigilante/self appointed judges from both sides.

Ugandan's React to Obama's threats
On the other hand, Obama should be ashamed of himself. Where does he come judging Ugandans when he openly said he doesn't support gay marriage and many states in America still fight gays/gay marriage? Wouldn't he be better off trying to talk to his people before poking his nose in matters of another African county? This bit here annoys me and brings back COLONIALISM all over again! Imposing your values/systems on others because you enslaved them with your dollars which were stolen from us in the first place!! This part really gets to me, and to many many others, President Museveni included.

I love how President Museveni didn't mince his words when it came to telling the international world to keep out of our business. He said, "so there's now an attempt at social imperialism - to impose social values of one group on our society. "We have been disappointed for a long time by the conduct of the West, the way you conduct yourselves. Our disappointment is now exacerbated because we are sorry to see that you live the way you live, but we keep quiet about it. Now you say 'you must also live like us' -- that's where we say no."

The bill may be harsh,no, it's harsh but the move by the western world to impose on us and issue threats is what's really causing even more outrage and making it all worse for the gays.

Meanwhile in Kenya, MPs pledged their support to Uganda and congratulated President Museveni for "the work done". One of them went ahead  to say (on Citizen TV) that they too are working on their documents to go down the same road!

Kansiime Anne Goes Viral

The beautiful Ann Kansiime
Well, this young beautiful lady from Kabale in Western Uganda no longer needs an introduction, at least not now. A few years back, maybe. That's in the past, Kansiime Ann is now a household name across East Africa and some other parts of Africa and the world over.
Ann's Commonwealth Day Invite

2013 and 2014 Last are most probably her busiest years if one is to go by her facebook posts about her gigs. She has hosted high profile events and award ceremonies where she of course came back carrying some of her own. She is soon going to perform in England at a high profile event; Ann recently received and accepted an invitation to the Commonwealth Day reception in London on March 10, 2014 in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburg

Add caption
I am proud of her! WHO WOULDN'T? I respect her as a woman of wit and A UGANDAN! You don't mess with Kansiime! Not only has she charmed her way to our hearts and telly screens with her wit an comedy but she also remains humble and very grounded. Unlike some other celebs I won't mention, Ann remains true to herself and for instance hasn't "grown" an accent in seconds. As is the way with most Ugandan celebs especially media personalities, she hasn't come back from "za ablooods" ie abroad with a British accent overnight hehhehhehe. Though I think that would make for a good skit. Ann makes you laugh and smile even without saying anything...and of course her sweet innocent "babylike" grin will eventually do you in! Today, I came across some of her YOU TUBE videos and literally "died of laughter! 'Am sure some of you have already watched some of these clips but Ann is Ann!!

Several Women in Kampala UNDRESSED For Wearing Mini Skirts! PURE MADNESS!

The Dark Anti Pornography Bill: So, let me get straight to the point! What is this nonsense we are hearing about women being undressed all over town??!!! Isn’t it enough that there is a weird bill out there to target females? Do we need this added misery of ignorant hooligans who can’t interpret it and are now using it as an excuse to humiliate and disrespect THE UGANDAN WOMAN?! How dare you undress a lady because you think she’s indecent?! So, tell me this, when she is naked, does that make her any more decent? And where do you come off taking the (sick) law in your hands anyway? Shameless immoral disrespectful psycho silly men is all I can say! All this misguided lot need spiritual cleansing and psychological HELP!!!

Don't get me wrong, I partially agree with the ban of indecent exposure like the one shown in these pictures, call me old fashioned but I find it distasteful and a lame cry for attention for a woman to parade her "goods" in public. So, yes, if that's what it will take to make such people to be reminded on how to dress like ladies, then YES to the law (only the bit THAT MAKES SENSE though).
Granted, the law makes some sense if interpreted well; yes we all want a moral country and decent daughters and sisters/friends but isn't this unguided disrespectful vigilante action taking it too far?!! You can't go around undressing people!

We expect the parliament to have a plan to deal with the aftermath of such bills (antigay bill included) but clearly they didn't think it through!

By the way, what is our “moral” government/police doing to stop this madness?!!! I see dark days AHEAD!
